April 2026

We had a lively April meeting discussing the topic Espionage, or Spy Novels .

A variety of books were featured, including a memoir by Norman Lewis, a real life MI6 operative in Naples, 1944. The novels read were by Len Deighton, John le Carre, William Boyd, Graham Greene, Stella Rimmington and Alan Judd. We had nearly all enjoyed our books, which featured Tudor code-breaking, Cold War brain-washing, super-agents and down-beat bureaucrats. Some stories were all action, others explored serious moral themes.

On May 28th we will discuss the work of Robert Harris, and on June 25th, The Midnight Library by Matt Haigh.
