On 15th April there was a pie and peas afternoon with a cabaret by Chris Woolven to follow. First off, this was a very good thing to do. The event was a sell out and I reckon we could have filled the O2 arena. The catering staff worked very hard and served up delicious pies with a variety of fillings together with a choice of pea options. Yum yum yum - it was all so delicious and everyone at the same table as Pat and me said how much they enjoyed it.

Member volunteers were efficient at clearing away the debris prior to the main event. When all the clattering had died down and mucky plates removed a handsome young man came on the stage and introduced himself. OMG it was no other than our vice - chair Chris Woolven. I had no idea he was so talented. From the off he pitched the kind of songs our audience would like, from Frank Sinatra numbers to Simon and Garfunkel and many others.

This was a side to Chris I had never seen before and his audience loved him. Not only did he perform each number very well but he gave a good back story which opened a few eyes as to the origins and purpose of many of the lyrics. As all good things must, we approach the end but our appreciative audience would not let him go and demanded an encore. What a brilliant afternoon - the joint was buzzing and I heard quite a few people say they hoped we could do the same again in the not too distant future.
