A Google search revealed that pétanque is not only played extensively across Europe, but more surprisingly in other countries. Not so surprising, the game is played in French-speaking Canada, notably in Québec.
Countries such as Japan, Mexico or South Korea have active teams, open competition and federations. In Japan, clubs are often attached to large industrial firms, examples being, Sony, Toyota or Mitsubishi.
In Europe the game is actively pursued in The Netherlands and Poland and is even enjoying a resurgence in France.
Here in Doncaster, our u3a now has 17 pétanque group members, eight of whom play regularly at Hexthorpe Boulodrome from 10.30am Wednesdays. We are always looking for more players.
