At the November meeting of the Gardening Group we were treated to Sylvia Johnson giving a demonstration on how to make a Christmas wreath.
Sylvia started by securing moss to a metal wreath frame with twine. This gave depth to the wreath and provided moisture for the foliage. Next evergreen branches were cut to the appropriate length, overlaid on the circle and secured in place. As gardeners we recognised that most of this greenery could be found in our gardens. It included leylandii, skimmia, rosemary, and other evergreens. Other suggestions were ivy, cotoneaster, ferns, old hydrangea flower heads and rosehips, seed heads.
To add interest pine cones, red berries, cinnamon sticks and ribbon were added. Dried oranges, baubles and tinsel could be another option
I think we were all inspired by Sylvia and hopefully the group will be sharing photographs of their creations.
The group would also like to thank Janet Kerry, the group leader for organising the event.
